Stranger Things announced for Universal's Halloween Horror Nights

Universal Studios has made a major announcement for this October, revealing plans to bring Netflix smash hit Stranger Things to its parks for the popular event.

Coming not only to Universal Orlando, but also to Universal’s parks in Hollywood and Singapore, Stranger Things is the first of nine haunted mazes to be announced for the operator’s annual Halloween event.

Taking place this year between 14 September through to 3 November, Stranger Things and the show’s ‘Upside Down’ will headline the horror event, recreating some of the show’s most iconic scenes, 80’s settings, and popular characters.

“We’re very excited to be working closely with Netflix – to give our guests an immersive experience into Stranger Things,” said Patrick Braillard, show director for Universal Orlando Resort Creative Development.

“You’ll faithfully follow the storyline, starting off on Mirkwood and then quickly moving to inside Hawkins National Laboratory where things have gone terribly, terribly wrong.

“From there you will experience all the most memorable moments and environments from the show while being hunted at every turn by the Demogorgon.”

Firmly set as a staple of the attractions sector, prompting millions of people to visit theme parks and other attractions worldwide, Halloween is worth more than US$7bn (€5.8bn, £5.3bn) a year to the US market alone – with the event the second-largest commercial programme only to Christmas.

Running since 1991, Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights have expanded from a special three-day event with a single haunted house, to what is now a 30-plus day event which last year had dozens of different horror attractions.

Universal will reveal more details about this year’s Halloween Horror Nights in the coming months.
